UG Courses

There are 14 major UG courses offered by Kerala University. It includes  Bachelor of Science, Commerce, Arts, Business Administration, Computer Applications, Fine Arts, etc.

01. BSc

BSc stands for Bachelor of Science. It is a 3-year degree program at Kerala University & admission is based on the merit prepared as per the marks in 10+2.

02. BA

Similar to BSc, Bachelor of Arts (BA) is also a 3-year undergraduate program offered by Kerala University. The eligibility criteria for this program is Class 12th pass with Arts/Science stream from a recognized board.

03. B.Ed

Unlike other UG programs, B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) is a 2-year degree program offered by the university. Admission to this course is done through Kerala B.Ed Entrance Exam. 

This entrance exam is conducted by the LBS Center of Science & Technology every year. 

In terms of the syllabus of the course, there are over 16 different subjects that you can choose from while doing your Bachelors of Education from Kerala University.

04. BPA

Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) is another 3-year undergraduate course that is all about dance, music & drama.

The various subjects available under this course are Dance, Mridangam, Veena, Violin & Vocal.

05. B.Tech

Kerala University offers more than nine trades for the B.Tech course (Bachelor of Technology). It includes Aeronautical Engineering, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical & other engineering trades.

The admission in the B.Tech program of the university is followed by KEAM (Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical). Students with a Science stream & a minimum of 45% marks in 10+2 are eligible for this exam.

06. B.Voc

B.Voc stands for Bachelor of Vocational Studies is a 3-year undergraduate program offered by the university that specializes in Software development, tourism & hospitality.

In Kerala university, admission to B.Voc is done on the basis of a merit list prepared by taking class 12 marks into consideration. Similar to other courses, here you need a minimum of 45% marks in 10+2.

The syllabus for Vocational Studies is divided into two main parts: i) software development & ii) Tourism & HM.

07. LLB

LLB, i.e. Bachelor in Law can be done as an integrated program at Kerala University. It can be done with BA (Bachelor of Arts), B.Com (Bachelor of Education), or B.Ed (Bachelor of Education).

Students should have at least 45% marks in class 12th & clear the KLEEE entrance exam offered by the university.

The complete syllabus is divided into six semesters. In the first year, you will learn about Legal Theory, Law of the Constitution, Crimes & Administrative systems.

In the 3rd & 4th semesters, several other laws are introduced that include Evidence, Family, Contract, Civil & Criminal procedure.

Law of transfer of property, labor & industrial relations, intellectual property rights & several others were discussed in the last year.

08. B.Arch

B.Arch stands for Bachelor of Architecture is a 5-year program offered by Kerala University. Each year consists of two semesters, i.e. a total of 10 semesters.

It is a professional program & admission is followed by the KEAM entrance examination.

Talking about the syllabus, there are 10 semesters, each of them comprises lectures, tutorials, practicals, jury & examinations.

09. BBA

BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) from Kerala University is a 3-year undergraduate degree program in which admission is done on the basis of 10+2 merit.

In order to get admitted to this course, one must have at least 45% marks in class 12th from a recognized board.

The complete syllabus is divided into 3 academic years. In the first year, you will study organizational & consumer behavior, HR, performance & retail management.

The next two semesters comprise finance & tourism management. In these semesters, you will learn various financial statements & tour/travel management.

10. BCA

University of Kerala’s BCA program (Bachelor of Computer Applications) is a three-year UG program that teaches the basics of computer applications & software development.

In order to get admission to this course, one should have passed 10+2 with Mathematics as a compulsory subject.

The main subjects in the syllabus are:

1st Year: Mathematics, Digital Electronics, Computer Organization & Architecture, Object Oriented programming & Data Structure.

2nd Year: OS, JAVA programming, DBMS & Visual Tools.

3rd Year: Computer Graphics, Internet Programming, Data Mining & Object-Oriented Analysis.

11. BCom

In the faculty of Commerce, the university provides a Bachelor’s degree course in Commerce. It is one of the best courses for those who are looking to make their career in the field of industrial & business world.

In order to be eligible for B.Com from Kerala University, one must have completed their 10+2 from a recognized board. 

The program structure of first degree programs in Commerce includes language, foundational, core, complementary & elective courses along with a project.

12. BPEd

If you are interested in making a career in the field of Physical Fitness & training, then this course might be of great use.

BPEd stands for Bachelor of Physical Education is a two-year professional degree program with only four semesters.

Each semester is divided into two parts: Theory & Practicum. Some of the sports that you will learn in this program include Kho-kho, Kabaddi, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis,  etc.

13. BSW

The Bachelor of Social Work is a full-time program offered by Kerala University that consists of six semesters.

The first two semesters are dedicated to the Sociology & Psychology of Social Work, Work skills & working with individuals & groups.

In the next two semesters, there are four core courses & one complementary course. Economics & Management of Social Work, working with community, inclusive practice, Health care services,  Administration, Research & Statistics for social work are some of the major topics.

The last two semesters include Community development, Social legislation, Abnormal Psychology, Family life education & Block Field Work.

PG Courses

Students could choose from a variety of PG courses at the University of Kerala. For all postgraduate courses, a bachelor’s degree is required.

Several postgraduate programs are offered by the University, including the MSc, MA, MBA, MCA, M.Plan, MCJ, MCom, and others.

Through the university’s entrance examination, students can apply for PG courses at the University of Kerala.

1. MA 

The Masters of Arts (MA) degree program is offered at Kerala University for two years & each year consisting of two semesters. University offers a wide range of courses that one can choose from while applying for Masters in Arts.

2. MSc

MSc stands for Master of Arts. The eligibility criteria for admission to Master of Science is that the student should have completed the bachelor’s degree in Science or its equivalent from a recognized university.

3. MTech

Those who want to enhance their knowledge of technology can avail the master of technology program offered by Kerala University.

It is a two-year degree program that is eligible only for people who hold a BTech degree from a recognized university.

4. MBA

MBA(Masters in Business Administration) students are granted a wide range of options without limiting their field of specialization during the course of the program.

The Kerala University MBA program is based on results from management entrance exams, particularly CAT, CMAT, and KMAT, along with a percentage requirement from the bachelor’s degree.

5. MCA

The University of Kerala offers an MCA program at the postgraduate level. The duration of this program is 3 years.

Applicants with a BCA or equivalent bachelor’s degree along with Mathematics can apply to take the entrance examination. A total of nine colleges operate under Kerala University that offers MCA programs.

A student’s entrance examination score is used to determine their admission to the university. 

6. MCJ

The Master of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) is a two-year postgraduate degree-based program that is offered by the University of Kerala.

The eligibility criteria for this course is that a candidate must have passed any bachelor’s degree in any stream.

7. MCom

It is a postgraduate degree in commerce. A degree in commerce is an excellent option for those interested in gaining knowledge in the fields of accounting, commerce, and economics

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in commerce from an accredited university to be eligible for admission to the M Com program. Students in these four semesters will learn about several interesting topics including e-commerce & Cyber laws, international business & trade, marketing, banking & insurance, information technology & E-business.

8. MEd

M.Ed stands for Masters of Education. The duration of the MEd course is 2 years, four semesters of six months each. This course needs regular participation for the requisite number of lectures, practical training, field study & internship.

The exam will be held in offline mode. The candidates must have a BEd degree for admission in this post-graduate degree program. The candidates are chosen based on their marks received in the MEd entrance test.

9. MPA

MPA stands for Master of Performing Arts is one of the most creative and interesting postgraduate courses. This course is best fit for those who are interested in making a career in the field of Dance, Music, Drama & Cinema.

Opting for this course will help you master related skills. Additionally, this course opens further opportunities in Film Organizations, Art Institutes, Cultural Organizations, etc. 

Students can even pursue a doctorate degree after completing this course to further enhance their skills.

At Kerala University, the duration of this course is 2 years & the eligibility criteria are one must have an undergraduate degree.

10. MPEd

Those who are interested in Physical Education & Sports can study Masters of Physical Education from Kerala University.

Kerala University is the first university in India with a department dedicated to physical education.

The syllabus of physical education for the Master’s programme at Kerala University is divided into four semesters. In each semester, there are four subjects, each having four credits of theory and one of practical.

11. MPlan

The program spans four semesters, in which you will learn about housing, urban planning, environmental planning, etc. For the M Plan, the minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree in the relevant field.

An applicant should have a CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale, as well as a valid GATE score. Also, the program requires the scores of AIIA/AMIETE/AMIE. 

Over these four semesters, you will gain an understanding of the planning techniques, infrastructure planning, city or urban development management, and housing and environmental planning.

12. MSW

Master in Social Work (MSW) is a two-year degree course offered at Kerala University. The educational qualification required for admission in this course is a bachelor’s degree in BSW.

The syllabus of MSW at Kerala University consists of four semesters which includes topics like Social Work, Working with Individuals, Groups & Communities, Social legislation, Human Rights, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, etc.

13. MTA

Kerala University offers the Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) as a two-year degree program, for which admissions are offered based on an entrance examination.

Applicants must hold a BTA degree with a minimum mark of 50% to be eligible for the MTA entrance examination.
